Tell us a little about yourself:Bob: I was born in New Jersey just outside of Princeton. I moved to Arizona with my family in 1963 and graduated from school in Scottsdale in 1968. My college experience was interrupted by service in Vietnam with the United States Army. After my time there, I spent several years trying to figure out what I wanted to be – student or rock star! Way too many distractions! How many years have you been in retail and, of those years, how many have been with The Clotherie?Bob: Interesting enough, I got into retail through the food and beverage industry. My first experience in clothing retail was in a tiny men’s boutique in 1984. I started at The Clotherie in 1990, took a slight detour from 2001 – 2006 (while still in men’s fashion), and fortunately found my way back to The Clotherie in 2007 where I joined back up with long lost friends. What inspired you to pursue a career in men’s retail? What is your favorite aspect of working in men’s retail?Bob: I believe retail chose me rather than my choosing retail. I enjoy talking to people and believe listening is the key factor to connecting with my customers. I want my clients to feel comfortable relaying what their particular needs are as each client is different. While some people want guidance, others may know what they want and simply need assistance to achieve a particular goal.On your time off, what activities and hobbies spark your interest?Bob: I like to relax by riding my motorcycle, traveling to places I’ve never been, and listening to music. I love intimate, live concerts at small venues or private events. I also enjoy examining and experiencing a variety of architecture and modern designs.Over the years, what trends in men’s fashions have excited you the most and what do you see for the future?Bob: Everything seems to cycle. I like to see new tech-fabrics, easy-care and stain resistant properties. I love the “style” of the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s a la Cary Grant, Rock Hudson, and Fred Astaire. |
